Bedrock FireCraft
Nothing draws a tribe of people together like a fire. It is a powerful resource for managing our basic needs and facilitates a comfort and peace that is hard to find, especially when you are alone or in a dire situation.
Course Cost $80/person The course is 4-hrs long and is held with other students in our outdoor forest classroom at Ranger's Ridge throughout the training season (May-October). See Event Calendar to plan out your training date. For those that want to save more in the long run, don't forget to check out the Bedrock Survival Skills Package to receive a discount when you bundle your Bedrock trainings together in one package.

Part of the Bedrock Survival Skills Program. This is the one of four courses that will need to be taken to complete the Bedrock Survival Skills Program. This course requires that students have first attended both the Bedrock ToolCraft & Bedrock KnotCraft courses.
Equipment needed. The Bedrock FireCraft course is largely hands-on and requires specific equipment to train. Students are responsible for bringing the required gear to a course so that they can get the full experience from the training and not hold up the rest of the class. See the Packing List for what you're expected to bring.

Ages 12+. Contact us for younger considerations as maturity and respect are key when using ignition sources and building fires.

Required Physical Condition. Students will need to be in decent physical shape to perform the requirements of this course. Students will be hiking through forest terrain with uneven ground and slopes, with their gear, to collect and carry resources back to base camp. Students will be expected to be able to kneel and stand back up multiple times to perform skills. Contact us if you believe your physical condition maybe a concern and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Understanding Fire...
Now many people have created a campfire before, but do you have the skills to consistently create and maintain a fire when it counts and your basic needs need to be met? Can you make a fire without a can of gasoline and a blowtorch? Can you make efficient use of your resources so you aren't constantly going out to collect more fuel? Can you manage wood type to get the best fire for drying out your clothes or making a bed of coals to cook on? Can you make a fire without smoking you or your group out of the area?

In the Bedrock FireCraft course we will begin by going over some of the mentalities of what a fire needs to be a fire in the first place. We will discuss why some of our past fires have failed and gain the understanding on what to do when we start to see indicators of failure.

Time to become a fire master, not just a fire starter...
Skill Intensive
During the Bedrock FireCraft course your instructor(s) will walk you through starting a fire, maintaining a fire, and manipulating it to create new resources.

We will discuss topics, such as:
- Conservation of Direct Flame Ignition Sources
- Commercial & Natural Emergency Tinder
- Gathering the Correct Fuel
- Hot Spark Ignition & Techniques (Ferro Rod Fires)
- Correct Fire Lay for the Job
- Creating Resources to Make the Next Fire Easier
The Next Step...
After this course we have no doubt you will be tempted to "fix" every fire you see from this point forward. Every fire will call to you to take control, manipulate it, and bend it to your will. The challenge will draw you in, it does for us.

Once you have successfully completed all 4 Bedrock courses, our staff will invite you to a PROVING to test your skills in a fun 3-day adventure with other students. When you complete your PROVING you will have successfully completed the Bedrock Survival Skills Program at Ranger's Ridge.

That opens up a whole new level of skills to continue training at Ranger's Ridge and expand your FireCraft journey by learning advanced fire techniques such as solar fires, friction fires, and much more.

Lets get those fires rolling...
